About Dr Ryan J Kee

I recently completed a contract as Lecturer in Economics at Queen's University Belfast, Northern Ireland, where I have been teaching for 5 years. Before obtaining my Ph.D. and moving into academia, I lived and worked in Juba, South Sudan, as an economist and advisor in the Macroeconomic Planning Department of the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning. That contract was held in conjunction with an ODI Fellowship and, prior to that position, I was employed as Research Economist in the Central Bank of Ireland. I am a development economist by trade, with my areas of research interest focused on the intersection of culture on economic outcomes, policy, and economic history. Most of my free time is spent with my kids, a guitar, or our pet cats.

About the lesson

Alfred Marshall famously described economics as "a study of mankind in the ordinary business of life." Simialry, my belief is that effective learning of economics necessitates a textbook in one hand, and a newspaper (or smartphone!) in the other. As such, all theory taught and presented should be applied to case studies and to relevant events that are occurring in the world around us now, and in our own lives. I have a Ph.D. in economics, have taught a range of economics courses at a Russell Group university, and have experience of working as an economic advisor in the Ministry of Finance in South Sudan and in the Central Bank of Ireland. I can teach various economics courses from GCSE to postgraduate university level, specialising in international trade, introductory economics, economics for business and managers, development economics, and economic growth. I have also taught a range of finance courses, specialising in investment analysis, financial strategy, and finance for managers.
