My approach to tutoring Economics is centred around creating a supportive, analytical, and interactive learning environment that adapts to each student's goals and learning style. I blend theory with real-world application, helping students not only understand key economic concepts like supply and demand, inflation, and fiscal policy, but also critically analyse how these ideas impact everyday life and global markets.

I place strong emphasis on developing evaluative and problem-solving skills essential for achieving top grades in GCSE and A-Level Economics. Lessons typically range from 45 minutes to 1 hour, depending on the student’s focus and objectives, allowing for a mix of theory, case studies, and exam-style practice.

With qualifications in GCSE and A-Level Economics and experience tutoring learners at various levels, I aim to make the subject both accessible and stimulating. Whether you’re preparing for exams or simply looking to enhance your understanding of how economies function, my lessons are structured, engaging, and tailored to unlock your full potential.

  • 1) When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

From a young age, I felt an intrinsic pull toward education and the transformative power it holds. Over the years, this evolved into a profound appreciation for the art of teaching - not merely the transmission of knowledge, but the act of igniting curiosity, nurturing confidence, and guiding a student toward real, tangible growth. Private tutoring became the perfect medium through which I could enact this impact on an individual level, adapting to each student's pace and personality to bring out their best.
  • 2) Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

I have the pleasure of teaching Physical Education, Economics, Geography, and Turkish - all at GCSE, A-level, and university level. What I enjoy most is weaving practical, real-world relevance into each topic. In Economics, for example, analysing global trends and discussing fiscal policies in light of current events brings theory to life. In Geography, examining the geopolitical implications of environmental change often sparks fascinating debate. I particularly enjoy interactive sessions where I mix conceptual instruction with Socratic questioning - 45 minutes of structured teaching followed by a dynamic 15-minute Q&A. I find this model sharpens critical thinking and ensures retention. If there's one challenge, it's perhaps overly rigid curricula that leave little room for exploratory thought - but we find creative ways around that.
  • 3) Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

Indeed. I was fortunate to have a remarkable Economics teacher during my formative years who possessed the rare ability to simplify complexity without diluting substance. His charisma, compassion, and clarity were all qualities I quietly aspired to mirror in my own teaching. It was less about the content and more about how he made us feel - empowered, understood, and endlessly curious.
  • 4) What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

A truly exceptional tutor must embody patience, adaptability, and empathy. One must read between the lines of silence and hesitation to uncover a student's real needs. Intellectual agility is vital - the ability to reframe concepts, draw analogies, and tailor explanations on the spot. Above all, passion - not for performance, but for progression - is the thread that binds every great tutor.
  • 5) Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

I once had a student who struggled profoundly with confidence in Economics - not because of ability, but due to a past experience that left them feeling intellectually inferior. Over time, through active engagement, role reversal exercises (where the student taught me), and constant reassurance, that same student earned the highest mark in their cohort. That moment reaffirmed to me: we don't just teach content - we empower identity.
  • 6) What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still face in your subject?

One of the ongoing challenges is dispelling the notion that subjects like Economics or Geography are "dry" or purely textbook-driven. I strive to make them living, breathing disciplines, rich with modern relevance. Additionally, in a digital age, attention spans are fragmented - maintaining deep, focused learning requires careful session structure and the right degree of engagement.
  • 7) Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

Teaching is, unequivocally, my passion - not as a profession, but as a vocation. The greatest privilege, in my view, is playing a part in someone's intellectual awakening. However, I'm also deeply passionate about communication - the way language, tone, and expression shape our understanding. Whether in Turkish linguistic nuance or in the delivery of economic policy, this interest often enriches the learning journey for my students.
  • 8) What makes you a Superprof (besides answering these interview questions :-P)?

Beyond answering questions with considered care, I believe what distinguishes me is my holistic approach to education. I don't just aim to help students pass exams - I strive to instil confidence, critical thinking, and a lasting appreciation for learning. My sessions are not only rigorous and well-structured, but also infused with energy, humour, and adaptability. I invest in every student as a unique individual, and in doing so, I aim to make a lasting impact far beyond the classroom.
