About Rory
Hi, I’m Rory! I recently graduated in Economics from the University of Edinburgh, but some of my most meaningful experiences have come from teaching. I’ve taught English, Maths, and Science to students in Thailand and volunteered as a teacher in Costa Rica. What I loved most was seeing students grow in confidence and realise they could achieve more than they first thought. That’s why I want to tutor — to make learning enjoyable, encouraging, and tailored to each student, so they feel supported every step of the way.

I believe the best learning happens when students feel confident, supported, and engaged. My tutoring approach is centred on: Clarity & structure – breaking down complex topics into manageable steps, using real-world examples to make learning relatable. Interactive methods – encouraging questions, active problem-solving, and regular feedback to build understanding, not just memorisation. Adaptability – tailoring lessons to each student’s needs, whether it’s filling knowledge gaps, exam preparation, or stretching more advanced learners. Lesson structure A typical session lasts 60 minutes, with a mix of explanation, practice, and recap. I set short exercises and provide guidance on how to approach problems independently. Homework or practice tasks can be given to reinforce learning between sessions.
