About Sophie

I am a recent Economics and Finance graduate from Heriot-Watt University, where I achieved a 2:1 overall and a First-Class grade in my dissertation. I also achieved A grades in Mathematics, Chemistry and Economics at A level.

I want to tutor because I enjoy helping others understand topics that may initially seem difficult or overwhelming. I know that every student learns differently, so I aim to explain concepts clearly, patiently and in a way that suits the individual.

As a qualified netball coach and umpire, I have experience working with young people, building confidence and adapting my communication style to different abilities. I want my lessons to feel supportive and encouraging, while also helping students improve their subject knowledge, exam technique and confidence.

About the lesson

My tutoring approach is friendly, structured and tailored to each student’s individual needs. I begin by identifying the topics they find most difficult and then break these down into clear, manageable steps. I use worked examples, guided practice and exam-style questions to build both understanding and confidence.

Lessons would typically last one hour. Each session would usually include a brief review of previous material, focused teaching on a key topic, practice questions and time to discuss any areas of uncertainty. I would also adapt lessons depending on whether the student needs support with homework, exam preparation or general confidence in the subject.

I recently graduated from Heriot-Watt University with an MA (Hons) in Economics and Finance, achieving a 2:1 overall and a First-Class grade in my dissertation. I also achieved A grades in Mathematics, Chemistry and Economics at A level. In addition, I am a qualified netball coach and umpire, which has given me experience explaining skills clearly, encouraging young people and adapting my communication style to different individuals.

My lessons are suitable for KS3 and GCSE students studying Mathematics, Economics or Chemistry, as well as A-level Economics students. I aim to create a supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and can make steady progress at their own pace.
