About Seth

Having recently graduated from the University of Oxford, I am now studying for my MA in History of Art at the Courtauld Institute. I have relatively few contact hours so can afford to be flexible with my time as tutor, and am available to travel across Central and North London on weekdays and weekends. I have experience as both a private tutor and a classroom teacher for students of all ages, from primary through to adult students. I have taught French and Italian at all levels, Latin to A Level and English and Mandarin to GCSE. I would be more than happy, however, to teach more broadly across the humanities in subjects such as History or History of Art. My focus is first to assess the key things the student is struggling with, before honing their individual strengths and creating lesson plans that might resonate with them more than their schoolwork has. I aim to make my lessons as engaging and dynamic as possible within the parameters of the student’s course requirements. I also welcome any students who need guidance with their university applications: either, more generally, with personal statement preparation, or more specifically, with the Oxbridge admissions process. I hope that, whilst sticking to the course content, my lessons will offer students new approaches to their subjects, which might even give them an extra spark to stand out amongst other prospective university applicants. As far as conversation lessons in foreign languages are concerned, I have experience teaching French, Italian and Mandarin and I would use the initial conversation/ meeting as a point of departure for subsequent lessons. Ordinarily, I do not follow a specific textbook but rather plan my lessons according to what my student wants to discuss and the areas of grammar they may need to work on. Perfect! Excellent, well prepared tutor for Latin A level
My daughter is very happy with Seth's tutoring. He is very patient with going over the basics and keeping the lessons interesting and varied. Seth is friendly, helpful and really knowledgeable. I cannot recommend him highly enough. He always comes prepared with useful assignments and tasks which help to make the lessons more productive.
