About Imogen

I am an experienced Guitar tutor with a 19 years' experience of teaching practice and a deep love for music education. I teach students from different age groups including school children, college youth, and working professionals. My teaching philosophy is built on steady progress and strong understanding. I emphasise the importance of mastering basics like rhythm accuracy, chord formation, scale practice, and finger strength.

Once students gain confidence, I guide them towards advanced techniques and performance skills. Many of my students have successfully performed on stage and overcome their fear of public performance. Their achievements and growth motivate me to continue teaching with dedication. I maintain a disciplined yet comfortable classroom atmosphere where students feel encouraged to ask questions and express themselves. My mission is to help learners build both skill and passion for guitar.

About the lesson

My Guitar teaching approach focuses on building strong foundations through clear communication and understanding each student’s learning style. I believe that when basics are strong, advanced learning becomes easy and enjoyable.

I first understand the student’s goal—whether they want to play for fun, exams, stage performance, church, band practice, or songwriting. Based on their goal, I adapt my lesson plan. Some students prefer visual charts and diagrams, while others learn better through listening and practice. I adjust my teaching method accordingly.

Along with Guitar, I also teach Music Theory, Rhythm Training, Scale Practice, Chord Construction, Ear Training, and Basic Songwriting. I use real-life examples like breaking down popular songs to explain chord progressions and strumming patterns. This helps students understand how theory works in real music.

I guide students step by step from tuning and posture to chords, scales, barre chords, fingerstyle, and improvisation. Regular practice routines and feedback help students improve steadily. My aim is to make students confident and independent musicians.
