About Imogen

Hi there! I'm Imogen, an art tutor with a flair for the fantastical and a penchant for puns. Armed with a Foundation Diploma in Art and Design, a First-Class (honours) Degree in Comic and Concept art, and a Masters Degree in World-Building, I'm on a mission to keep the arts alive and kicking - preferably with a paintbrush in hand! When I'm not guiding students through the labyrinth of creativity, you'll find me: Herding Cats- My two cats are both my muse and my mischievous studio assistants. Sketching- I have hundreds of sketch books bursting with everything from silly little comics, to fully rendered art pieces. You won't find me without one to hand! Gaming Galore- I have a real passion for video games and game-design in general! World-Building Wizardry- Crafting intricate universes isn't just a skill, it's a calling! from characters to environments and even to designing socio-political systems, it's my bread and butter. D&D Devotee- Rolling dice and creating campaigns in Dungeons & Dragons fuels my imagination and adds a dash of adventure to my life! Education Enthusiast- Sharing knowledge and inspiring budding artists is one of the most fulfilling things I can do - after all, creativity is contagious, and I'm here to spread it! My diverse artistic interests, from Concept art to Fine art, enrich my teaching methodology, allowing me to connect with students over shared passions and incorporate a variety of creative perspectives and artists into our sessions. I am committed to nurturing the next generation of artists, tailoring each lesson to support individual growth and helping students to develop their unique artistic voices! My mission is to keep the arts alive and thriving, so let's do it together!

About the lesson

My tutoring sessions are designed for GCSE and A-Level students looking to develop their artistic and design skills. Lessons range from 1 to 3 hours, allowing for in-depth exploration of techniques and concepts tailored to each student's needs. I cover a range of techniques, including: -DRAWING, PAINTING AND ILLUSTRATION. From foundational skills, to advanced rendering -DIGITAL ART AND CONCEPT DESIGN. Using industry-standard software -MIXED MEDIA EXPERIMENTATION -COMPOSITION AND STORYTELLING. Developing visual narratives -CHARACTER AND ENVIRONMENT DESIGN. Essential for World-building and visual storytelling. -PORTFOLIO PREPARATION. Guidance for art school/Higher education applications Teaching Approach: Recognising that art is inherently subjective, I prioritise creating a supportive environment where students feel empowered to explore and express their unique artistic perspectives. Having worked with children extensively, and seen that nobody learns in the same way, it is important to me that my sessions are tailored to the student's individual interests, strengths and goals. My academic background, including a Foundation Diploma in Art and Design, a First-class honours degree in Comic and Concept Art, and a Masters degree in World-building, equips me with an extensive and diverse skill set - digital and traditional - to guide students effectively on their creative journey. I aim to foster a personalised learning experience that encourages experimentation and self-discovery, as well as an avenue to hit certain academic criteria. By acknowledging and embracing the diverse ways that art can be interpreted and created, I strive to strengthen each student's artistic growth and help them develop a confident, authentic artistic understanding and identity.

Possesses good fine motor skills for detail, and has a fantastic eye for analysing elements in pieces of art. More practice is needed when keeping flow and confidence in longer, broader strokes and lines; but overall a very good skill set to start with. I had a great time tutoring Logan for this session, and look forward to facilitating his steady progress to more interest-based projects following the strengthening of technique and study. Well done.

She has done graphic label design for a wine brand and has also done stylised portrait commissions.
