About Samuel
Hello! My name is Sam, and I'm a Doctoral Researcher at the University of Reading specialising in English Literature, with a particular focus on British Literature of the 1930s period.
I have plenty of experience teaching and tutoring. I have tutored over 20 students since I began as a private tutor in 2017 when I started my Undergraduate degree. I have tutored groups and individuals ranging from the ages of 13 to 18 years old in English Literature/Language, Politics, and Classical Studies. In my six years of tutoring, I have had the privilege of tutoring a wide range of students at varying stages of their education. Doing so has helped me become a flexible and understanding tutor. Above anything, I want my students to feel motivated and passionate about their studies. I currently lead seminars on Poetry and Modernism at the University of Reading for first-year Undergraduates. As a seminar leader, I organise and plan lessons, suggest external readings and mark formative essays.

I tailor every session to the needs of each student, and I will discuss what each lesson entails with the student beforehand to have a clear idea of what we would like to achieve. At GCSE and A-Level, exam preparation is a priority. For example, exam preparation sessions will incorporate past-exam papers and potential exam questions, as well as formulate an understanding of how examiners think and what they might be looking for in a model answer.
I am familiar with AQA, Edexcel and OCR exam boards.
