About Gillian

I bring 4 years of guitar teaching experience and a Bachelor of Music in World Music (Guitar Traditions) to my lessons. My speciality is working with metal, shred, and progressive rock guitarists who want to unlock advanced skills. These genres thrive on speed, accuracy, and creativity, and I make sure students develop all three. We cover everything from fast alternate picking to sweep arpeggios and legato runs. I help students break down these techniques in a way that feels clear and achievable. Young learners and adults both find my lessons motivating and supportive. My teaching style is structured but never rigid. I emphasise clean playing before speed so students avoid frustration. I also bring in influences from world music traditions to expand phrasing and rhythm. This helps students sound more original and expressive. Lessons are designed to combine technical drills with inspiring musical ideas. Progress feels exciting because each skill builds towards real artistry. I’ve supported recording artists who seek detail and refinement, as well as adults who start their journey later but aim for steady progress. Each lesson is adapted to student goals and pace. I encourage patience and determination while keeping lessons motivating. Technical skill and expression grow side by side. Every session strengthens confidence as much as artistry. My teaching makes the guitar a tool for creative storytelling. Lessons uncover both the detail and the beauty of fingerstyle playing. Together, we’ll make your music both precise and expressive.
