Denise - St. Albans - ESOL (English)

I have had piano lessons with Denise since March 2018. I am best described as a mature, rather late but keen novice. I have played guitar for over 50 years but was self-taught and had never learned to read music. I had no prior experience at all of playing piano.

Denise has guided me with skill, patience and an abundance of kindness and good humour in my journey. Even the limitations imposed by lockdowns were overcome by the imaginative use of Zoom.

I have progressed with my playing, reading and understanding of music more than I could have imagined possible. Friends who have heard me play have been impressed and they would be more than ready to give me a truly honest opinion if I had reminded them of Les Dawson!

I can vouch for Denise’s professionalism, dedication and integrity. Her love of music is infectious. I am certain that students of any level would benefit from her guidance and tuition.

I've had voice lessons for over 6 years from Denise. She is very knowledgeable, precise and accurate in her teaching, and also has a lovely, friendly manner. She demands high standards, but we also have many laughs. She has transformed my singing voice, and I cannot recommend her too highly.

Denise has been teaching singing for more than 20 years, and she has been teaching piano for over a decade longer than that.

She is a very imaginative, and inspirational teacher, with high standards. She is very skilled in teaching both children and adults, and has extensive experience of teaching at all levels of ability in terms of singing and piano. She is empathetic and patient, and is able to communicate effectively with children of all ages. 100% of her pupils pass their ABRSM exams, almost always with either a distinction or a merit.

She also teaches music theory, and enters pupils for theory exams.

As an accomplished performer, she is also very knowledgeable in performance style, and in conveying this, as well as technique. She also has extensive knowledge relating to vocal and piano repertoire, as well as ensemble and orchestral repertoire.

Denise Alonzo is obviously extremely passionate about singing, piano, and music in general, in conveying this to her pupils, and is totally committed to bringing out the best of her pupils' ability.

Denise Alonzo is a very organized and reliable person. I have always found her to be a person of utmost integrity, trustworthiness and dependability, and I would highly recommend her as a singing/piano teacher.
