About Charlotte

Hello!
My name is Charlotte Barnett Shirley, and I graduated from Ogden High School in 2026. I am currently a Freshman at the University of Utah, where I'm studying Supply Chain Operations, International Relations, and Japanese. I am conversationally fluent in Japanese and Spanish. I also have certifications in Microsoft Office and Fashion Design, both from Weber State University.

I am an English Sterling Scholar, member of the Honors College, and recipient of the IB Diploma. I specialize in English, whether it be writing, structure, or even deciphering old texts. My favorite part of the IB program was writing essays, though I also really enjoyed delivering the IO for my HL Lang and Lit class. While I am attempting to teach, I also want to establish a connection with my students, as I did not have someone close to my age guiding me through the IB.

About the lesson

I survived the IB program, and so will you! As a recent graduate who earned a 6 in HL Language & Literature and was named an English Sterling Scholar, I know exactly how overwhelming the workload feels, especially in IB DP2 during essay writing season. I have been in your shoes! I understand the late-night stress of formatting citations and trying to decode an IB essay rubric.

A typical lesson would include picking apart the rubric, reading and providing feedback on essay drafts, formatting, and exam prep. However, as a class of 2026 graduate and recipient of the Diploma, the program is still fresh in my memory, meaning I can provide help in other areas as well.

So, because I’ve been there, my goal is to make our lessons fun and entirely stress free. I won’t lecture. Instead, we will break down massive, terrifying tasks into small steps, making you feel accomplished and capable at the end of every session. Whether it’s understanding the HL Essay rubric or formatting the front page of your Extended Essay, I will be with you!

Here is exactly what we can tackle together:

IB English HL Essay: Picking the perfect text, choosing literary devices, and understanding the author's intentions, regardless of how much or little information you have to work with.

Internal Assessments (IAs) & the Individual Oral (IO): From picking the perfect text and forming a bulletproof thesis to refining your literary analysis.

The Extended Essay (EE): Crafting a clear research question, structuring your arguments, and making sure you hit every single point on the rubric.

The TOK Essay: From picking a prompt to matching it with your favorite AOKs, the TOK essay is a lot of fun!

Bonus Writing Support (The Math IA!): Fun fact: math is definitely not my strong suit, but I cracked the code on the written criteria and scored an 18/20 on my Math IA. If you are struggling to write and structure your Math IA so that you hit every criteria, I will share exactly what helped me.

Whether you are completely stuck on a topic or just need a final, polished proofread before submission, I am here to help you excel without anxiety or unnecessary pressure.

Let’s get you a 7!
