About Sonya Shane

I come from New York, USA and I am half Russian. I grew up singing Russian Pop on the stage in Moscow at the Kremlin and Crocus City Hall starting at the age of 10. I began learning classical voice at the age of 16 at the Manhattan School of Music Pre-College Program. By 18, I moved to Germany and studied at conservatory there, the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg, where I obtained my Bachelor's degree. I now am based in Paris, where I am recording and producing a Pop album with music I have written.

About the lesson

Every voice is different and has the potential to shine. We can get to know each other, and set goals. What style of music would you like to sing? What songs do you dream of singing? Do you have a performance goal in mind? I'll come up with a personalized plan for us to approach how to reach whatever your goals are. Every voice lesson consists of vocal warm-ups, and piece work- working on whatever song we decide to focus on. We will discuss lyrics (If it is an opera aria, the translation and meaning, also the context of the opera, and if it is pop we discuss the meaning of the text and how we can relate to the text) I also speak about the anatomy of the voice, and how singing works on an anatomical level. I like to have a balance in my lessons: how to sing on a technical level, but also a musical and emotional level. Our voices are one of the best things that we have been gifted with, and to learn how to use it is an experience I hope everyone can have.
