About Rachel

About Me

I am an educator with experience teaching primary school Mathematics, to SJKC students. I enjoy breaking down difficult concepts into simple, step-by-step explanations so that students can understand clearly and build a strong foundation in their learning.

In Mathematics, I often support SJKC students by explaining Chinese mathematical terms with pinyin and English meanings, especially for younger learners such as SJKC Year 1. This helps students connect language and concepts more easily and reduces confusion when learning new topics.

My teaching style is structured and supportive. I use whiteboard-based explanations for clarity in physical classes and digital tools for online lessons. I guide students through examples step by step before encouraging them to try independently, helping them gain both understanding and confidence.

I chose to teach because I genuinely enjoy helping students grow. I believe every child can succeed when given the right guidance, patience, and encouragement. Seeing students improve, gain confidence, and start to enjoy learning is what motivates me to continue teaching.

My goal is to create a positive and supportive learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and improving steadily over time.

About the lesson

For Mathematics, especially when teaching SJKC Year 1 students, I take extra care to support bilingual understanding. I write the Chinese mathematical terms, include pinyin, and explain their meanings in English so that students can better understand key vocabulary and concepts without confusion. This helps build both their mathematical foundation and language confidence at the same time.

For online lessons, I apply the same teaching style using digital whiteboards and screen sharing. I continue to emphasize step-by-step guidance, guided practice, and independent exercises to ensure effective learning even in a virtual environment.

Each lesson typically lasts 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on the student’s needs and attention span. Lessons are structured with revision, introduction of new topics, guided practice, independent work, and feedback.

For online lessons, I adapt the same teaching style using digital tools such as screen sharing, online whiteboard platforms, and guided written explanations. I still maintain a step-by-step method, where I explain concepts clearly first, then guide students through practice questions before letting them try independently.
