About Jidan

I'm Jidan, a graduating science student at the University of Toronto. I've spent four years studying chemistry and biology at an advanced level, and I genuinely enjoy breaking down difficult concepts for others.

I started tutoring because I noticed that most students don't struggle with the material itself; they struggle with how it's been explained to them. I've worked with students across different learning styles and confidence levels, and I find that the right approach makes a bigger difference than extra hours of studying.

Outside of academics, I'm a musician and a writer, which helps me think creatively about how to explain things in ways that actually stick. I'm patient, reliable, and I care about my students doing well.

About the lesson

I'm a 4th-year Honours BSc student at the University of Toronto, double majoring in Chemistry and Biology. I've been on the Dean's List twice and have spent the last two years tutoring high school and first-year university students.

I tutor chemistry (grades 11–12 and first-year university), biology (grades 11–12 and first-year university, including molecular biology, genetics, and ecology), math (up to calculus and linear algebra), physics, and introductory Python. I also work with students preparing for university entrance.

My approach is to figure out where your understanding actually breaks down, not just where you start getting wrong answers. I work through problems with you, not for you. A typical session starts with a quick check on what's confusing, then we work through targeted problems together, and I make sure you can solve a similar one on your own before we move on.

What sets me apart is that I've studied these subjects at an advanced level across both chemistry and biology, so I can explain the same concept from multiple angles. I adapt to how each student learns rather than following a fixed script.
