About Chris

With over 6 years of dedicated tutoring experience, I specialize in guiding students from school age to college level in the art and technique of Singing. My approach blends classical vocal pedagogy with modern musical sensibilities to create a learning environment that is both empowering and inspiring. Whether you're discovering your voice for the first time or refining your skills for performances, auditions, or competitions, I am here to help you connect with your voice and express yourself confidently. My teaching style is rooted in student-centered learning, meaning each lesson is uniquely tailored to your vocal needs, goals, and musical interests. I incorporate innovative methods such as real-time feedback using vocal analysis software, ear training with pitch-recognition tools, and repertoire expansion across genres like classical, pop, musical theater, folk, and contemporary. I also prioritize healthy vocal technique, focusing on breath control, vocal placement, resonance, diction, pitch accuracy, range development, and performance confidence. To foster deep learning, I use interactive vocal warm-ups, lyric interpretation exercises, and improvisational games that make learning not just effective but enjoyable. I often integrate cross-disciplinary techniques from theater and body awareness practices like the Alexander Technique to support posture, relaxation, and vocal projection. I believe in cultivating not only skilled singers but expressive artists. My students have successfully auditioned for school musicals, university programs, choirs, and have even gone on to compose and record their own original music. With a compassionate and motivating presence, I help students overcome stage fright, develop their unique sound, and most importantly, find joy in singing. If you're ready to develop your voice, enhance your musicality, and build your confidence as a performer, I’m here to guide you every step of the way—one breath, one note, one song at a time.

Singing is an act of embodiment—it engages the breath, the voice, and the emotions in real time. My teaching philosophy stems from the belief that vocal instruction should not only support technical proficiency but also nurture authenticity, curiosity, and joy. At the heart of my work with students is the commitment to building a strong technical foundation that prioritizes vocal health and efficiency.

I focus on breath management, vowel alignment, registration, and resonance balancing as key components of vocal strength. These areas are approached with patience and intention, emphasizing functional understanding and physical ease. Through consistent practice and personalized exercises, I help students develop control, stamina, and range—all essential for both artistic freedom and vocal longevity.

Equally vital is the cultivation of expressive integrity. Singing is storytelling, and I work closely with students to bring their own truth to the music. This involves exploring textual meaning, musical phrasing, and emotional context, often using methods such as sensory recall, character study, and movement-based work. I encourage singers to dig into their personal experiences and connect them to their performance, all while remaining grounded in the composer’s and lyricist’s intent.

A sense of cultural and historical awareness also plays a central role in my teaching. Repertoire is chosen not only for vocal suitability but for its significance, offering students the chance to engage with music as both artists and scholars. We discuss the origins of pieces, the stories they tell, and the cultural forces that shaped them. This deepens performance quality and fosters an environment of intellectual and artistic respect. I believe that perseverance is what turns potential into reality. Progress in singing can be subtle and nonlinear, and I support students in setting achievable goals, measuring progress with care, and responding to challenges with resilience. I teach students to value process over perfection and to find strength in reflection, not just results.

I aim to create a learning space where vulnerability is seen as strength, and where both success and struggle are met with curiosity. Each lesson is a collaborative journey, grounded in trust and fueled by the shared commitment to growth. My role as a teacher is to offer structure, encouragement, and tools—ultimately guiding each singer toward their most empowered, expressive, and skillful voice.
