I am a data scientist who specialises in Machine Learning, this means every day I work with algorithms, calculus, trigonometry and complex computer systems. I have tutored young people with a wide range of abilities and starting points from the age of 4-16 for several years in mathematics.

The cliche is right: everyone is different, and so the teaching methodology used will likely vary from each client to another. Some students respond well to different methods, sometimes the student knows what they respond well to and on other occasions they are still on the journey to discovering this - in either case, I adapt my lessons around this. My starting point is always comprehensively assessing the strengths and weaknesses in the starting knowledge and backfilling these gaps to ensure a strong foundation for continued learning from.
