About Mourtallah
My passion for teaching comes from a long history with the Gifted and Talented programs in public schools, of which I was apart. I developed an appreciation for the fact that every one learns differently and at different paces. When I changed from journalism to mathematics at an Ivy League school, I essentially had to teach myself, I practically wrote my own textbooks for myself! As I started to take on clients for algebra, calculus and statistics, I found myself with an entire toolkit of metaphors by which to impart knowledge. Now that I am a professional in the data science field, I would like to smooth the path to math for other learners. As a teacher for Youth Action YouthBuild, %100 of my math class passed their GED. I know how to bring out what is interesting in math for new learners, as I was my first teacher and my first student.

My lessons benefit those struggling with math: algebra, linear algebra, the calculus series and statistics. My approach revolves around the student's competencies and guiding them through building out a foundational knowledge stack upon which to layer more advanced concepts. I teach students how to conceptualize math concepts in ways that are practical, understandable and stable, as there is really no other way to REALLY learn them. It can only be done brick by brick, so to speak; from the foundation.
