About Thelonius

Hi! I'm Theo. I'm from Brooklyn, New York. I am an undergrad at Holy Family University studying Biology on a pre-physical therapy track. I aim to have a doctorate in physical therapy in the next few years. Meanwhile, I'm training and participating in the sport of Track and Field, and love learning about history. In my free time I like to trade stocks, read self improvement books, history books, and my Bible, and I enjoy helping others like you learn to think critically about the world.

As a tutor, my approach revolves around creating a supportive and engaging learning environment where students feel empowered to explore concepts, ask questions, and develop critical thinking skills. Here's how I typically share my knowledge:

Teaching Method and Techniques:

I believe in a student-centered approach, tailoring my teaching methods to the individual needs and learning styles of each student.
I incorporate a variety of instructional techniques, including visual aids, hands-on activities, discussions, and real-life examples, to make complex concepts more accessible and relatable.
I encourage active participation and collaboration, fostering a growth mindset and promoting a sense of ownership over learning outcomes.
I provide constructive feedback and encouragement, helping students build confidence and overcome challenges.
Typical Lesson Plan:

Each lesson begins with a clear learning objective, establishing what students should be able to accomplish by the end of the session.
I start with an engaging introduction to capture students' interest and provide context for the lesson topic.
I scaffold instruction, breaking down complex concepts into smaller, more manageable steps, and gradually increasing the level of difficulty as students progress.
I incorporate opportunities for guided practice, independent exploration, and reflection, allowing students to apply what they've learned and reinforce their understanding.
I conclude each lesson with a summary of key concepts, a review of learning objectives, and a preview of what to expect in the next session.

What Sets Me Apart as a Tutor:

My adaptability and flexibility allow me to tailor my approach to meet the unique needs and preferences of each student.
I prioritize building strong rapport and trust with my students, creating a supportive and nurturing learning environment where they feel comfortable taking risks and making mistakes.
I emphasize not only academic achievement but also holistic growth, fostering the development of essential skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication.

Who the Lessons Are For:

My lessons are suitable for students of all ages and academic levels, from elementary school to highschool and beyond.
I specialize in a wide range of subjects, including but not limited to mathematics, language arts, science, social studies, and test preparation.
Whether students are struggling with a particular concept, aiming to excel academically, or seeking enrichment opportunities, my lessons are designed to meet their individual needs and goals.
