About Riley

UCLA Poli Sci Tutor | AP Gov & SAT Prep

Hi! My name is Riley, and I am a Political Science and Public Affairs double major at UCLA. I have a strong academic background in government, history, and civic institutions, and I want to help students feel confident navigating subjects that can feel overwhelming or abstract.

At UCLA, I am actively involved in campus organizations, including the Basic Needs Center, where I work closely with students and understand the importance of clear communication, organization, and individualized support. These experiences shape my tutoring approach: patient, structured, and responsive to each student’s learning style.

I offer discussion-based tutoring in English, U.S. History, Civics, AP Government, AP European History, AP United States history, and the SAT Writing and Reading preparation. I offer some in-person lessons depending on location, but as a student, mostly offer online tutoring. I focus on helping students master content, improve test-taking strategies, and develop strong analytical and writing skills on the SAT and in their classes. My goal is not only to help students succeed academically, but also to feel more confident engaging with history, literature and government in meaningful ways.

If you are a middle school or high school student looking for help with AP courses and material or SAT Prep you're in the right place. I'm here to assist you with history, Western civilization, civics, government, AP Government, APUSH, AP European History and AP LIT & LANG or general English. I also offer SAT reading and writing prep.

My lessons are made to fit your needs. Typical lesson plans take into account:

-grade level
-proficiency
-long-term goals
-learning style

A given plan may include:
1. testing prior knowledge
2. lecture with examples (primary and secondary sources)
3. discussion questions
4. supplemental reading
5. follow-up discussion
6. exit questions
7. practice questions to work on outside of lessons
