About Sheilagh

I'm currently studying History and Philosophy in Maynooth. My plan is to work on the development side of education, and I want to do a PhD in Canada. I loved school, mainly because I was lucky enough to be in a very good one. My other hobbies include music (I play the guitar and I'm a trained singer), dance, and sewing. One-to-one tuition can make a massive difference to a student's grades, but more importantly, their confidence. Worrying constantly about someone you struggle with takes a massive toll on your mental health. If English is something you're good at and you want to really excel, private grinds can push you over the edge into the higher grade boundaries. The state exam system is a flawed one but unfortunately it's what we have, and I know from experience how to do well. And even more importantly, I know how to impart that information to others.

About the lesson

The key to success on State Examinations is your exam technique and knowledge of the marking schemes. For English, writing ability and structure are also paramount.
Lessons would typically be 45 minutes to an hour.
We would analyse reading comprehensions and essay questions from past papers and look at planning answers.
I would assign one written assignment to be done between lessons, and feedback would be given in a broken down, understandable way that would directly relate to exam marking schemes.
While I was in school I often offered assistance to my peers and it always led to higher marks on their work. My inputs were valued by all the English teachers. A reference is available on request.
