About Maria
! I’m Maria and am currently working for the Special Education District of Lake County as a TA. I have been working in the special education field since graduating college. I have worked at three schools and one residential facility. I received my bachelor’s degree in Sociology and a minor in Social Work from Elmhurst College. I am currently enrolled in the MAT of Special Education from National Louis University.

My philosophy of education is three-fold. With my background in sociology and social work, I tend to side with the reconstructionism, the developmentalism, and the behaviorism philosophy of education. The reconstructionism philosophy of education calls to change society from the bottom up, to push for an education that will create a better society. The developmentalism philosophy of education surrounds the idea that children mature physically, emotionally, cognitively and socially, passing through orderly, sequential stages of development. The behaviorism philosophy of education calls for rewarding positive behavior and sanctioning negative behavior.
