About Matthew

I am a dedicated public health professional and educator with a Master of Public Health (MPH) in Health Management & Policy from Capella University. My academic journey began at Georgia Southern University, where I earned a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Food Science with a concentration in Dietetics.

I have a strong passion for preparing the next generation of health professionals. My teaching experience includes:
Clemson University: Served as a Lecturer, where I was responsible for courses such as Introduction to Public Health, U.S. Health Care Systems, and Health Promotion Program Planning.

Georgia Southern University: Acted as a Visiting Instructor focusing on Quantity Food Systems and Nutrition and Health.

Innovation: I pride myself on integrating real-world applications into the classroom, such as developing projects on marketing school lunches during emergencies.

My teaching is backed by extensive "on-the-ground" experience in public health and emergency management:
Emergency Response: I have served as an ICS Logistics Section Chief, leading nutrition logistics during Hurricanes Irma and Michael.

Public Health Practice: My background includes working as a Retail Food Safety Officer for the South Carolina Department of Agriculture and a Director of Dietary Services.
Community Health: I founded a CDC-recognized Diabetes Prevention Program to support underserved rural communities.
Service & Leadership
Beyond the classroom, I am a U.S. Army veteran (Combat Engineer) and have a long history of service, including managing a K-8 aquaponics farm and mentoring dozens of undergraduate students each semester on their career paths.
