About Hafsa
I'm a writer and poet who has been published or has work forthcoming in more than 10 well-known literary magazines and journals such as Electric Literature, Pleiades, The Offing, Up the Staircase Quarterly, AAWW: The Margins, South Dakota Review, Kitchen Table Quarterly, The Maine Review, & elsewhere. I'm primarily a poet but also write flash fiction which has also been received well in the literary world. I graduated from Bennington College in 2022 with a triple major, one of which was literature/creative writing. Throughout my time at college and post-graduation, I've extensively worked in the publishing industry or with literary organizations such as Copper Canyon Press, Kneerim & Williams, and Brooklyn Poets. I also serve as a poetry editor for Muzzle Magazine.

Drawing from my experience as a published poet, literature major from Bennington College, and work in the publishing industry (interned at poetry presses such as Copper Canyon), I will assist students at all levels of learning in generating new poems, understanding poetic forms, genres, and general jargon, learning how to edit their poems, and how to successfully submit their work to literary magazines and graduate school programs (MFA).
Lessons will be conducted via Zoom and lesson plans will be personalized according to what the student would like to focus on.
General lesson plans will include reading new poems together and analyzing them, generating new poetry via writing prompts, learning about and practicing both novel and traditional poetic forms (everything from a sestina to a duplex), and editing poetry to submit to different literary avenues.
If the student is interested in applying to MFA programs for poetry, I will help with curating a school list, writing statements of purpose/personal statements for programs, creating literary CVs/resumes and editing writing samples.
Recommendations
Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the tutor.
Hafsa is an incredibly thoughtful and dedicated teacher. Her support and patience make her not only a great student resource but a mentor as well. Her critical feedback is both clear and constructive, always aiming to push students to generate their best work.
As her former fellow student in university, I have known Hafsa to be very helpful, a booklover and someone with a strong grasp on English language. She has also been a writing tutor and an educational leader for her fellow students where she was extremely insightful, understandable and prepared towards them. I highly recommend her :)
Hafsa prioritizes the student’s demands and knows how to push them and comes up with ways for them excel and achieve their academic goals. I don’t think I could have passed or even thought about giving my SAT if it wasn’t for her lessons and tips and her constant support. Hands down the only person who could have been patient enough to teach me in a way that I truly understand.
Hafsa is a brilliant poet and an equally talented social science academic. Her patience and well-detailed feedback made me confident in my essay writing and citation skills. She’ll always be my go to tutor whenever I need sound but empathic academic support!
