About Grae
I am a 27-year-old MA Creative Writing Graduate with a 1st from Manchester Metropolitan where I received incredible personalised tuition from one of the best poets in the world who is also on the GCSE AQA syllabus - Carol Ann Duffy! While I love poetry, I recognise not everyone does, so I’m here to ignite a spark and find new ways to connect with poetry so that young people don’t end up feeling lost and frustrated when it comes to poetry in their assessments and exams. I currently work as an Outdoor Activity Instructor at a residential for young people in Todmorden, and have taught English and Sailing to all ages the past.

Does your teenager hate poetry? Perhaps the way poetry is explored at school doesn’t quite inspire them. Perhaps they don’t feel seen by the poems, or perhaps poems feel like a waste of time and they “just don’t get it.” As a poet and educator, I tailor sessions to teenagers working towards their GCSEs and ALevels, starting by finding material they can relate to based on their own interests, before looking at set texts for school so they can breeze their exam. Hopefully after spending some time together, your teenager will hate poetry a little bit less and recognise that poetry is everywhere - even in football chants and rap lyrics - we just need to know how to look for it.
