About Dechopol

Please don't let my name scare you away! I'm Thai and we often have long names, but we also have nicknames and mine is Top! I was born and raised in Bangkok, but left home to study music when I was 15. I had been all over the place studying - starting from Hong Kong, Belgium, the USA, Austria, France, and now Oslo :)

I'm friendly, appreciate a good sense of humor and I really love helping people. I take every job, big or small, very seriously, but I'm also inherently lazy, so I'm obsessed with finding the most efficient way of doing things.

As a musician, I love telling stories and moving the listeners. I consider myself primarily a chamber musician (string quartet especially), but I have also performed recitals, concertos and I’m currently co-principal second violin at KORK. I'm also passionate about making music accessible to all people and am planning to start a concert series in cool places in Oslo in the near future!

Outside of music, I would have a blast talking to you about football, British panel shows, movies, tv shows, games, and photography!

About the lesson

Music-making shouldn't feel difficult. It is a means of communication and your instrument is just a tool. Together we will explore what in each piece of music makes YOU excited and enjoy the music so much that violin playing becomes easy! We'll do this in many, many creative ways, such as simple improvisation (don't worry, it's quite easy!), rewriting the music, making your own etudes, and playing musical games!

If you have some music theory knowledge, great! If you don't, not a problem - I can teach you some easy-to-understand, cool theory stuff as well!

I'm fascinated by the process of learning, so since I was quite young, I take every opportunity to ask other musicians how they practice or generally approach music. This gives me hundreds of ways to solve problems. I promise you won't be asked to simply "play scales and repeat this 50 times"! I'll cater to your individuality as much as I can :)

Some technicality - lessons will be in English (no Norwegian yet, I'm sorry!) and typically 1 hour long. But if you're enjoying the lesson and are not in a hurry, it can go as long as 3 hours! All ages are welcome, but no beginners please :)
