About Luke
I teach guitar as a living, evolving practice—a way of thinking, expressing, and connecting with sound. My lessons are designed to build fluency: not just technical proficiency, but the ability to think and communicate musically. I work closely with students to understand their interests and needs, then build a curriculum that includes foundational technique, applied theory, and creative development. For beginners, this might mean building muscle memory through songs they love and exercises tied to real music. For advanced students, it might mean exploring voice leading, modal applications, hybrid picking, or composing in odd meters. No matter the level, we stay rooted in sound. We listen, analyze, reflect, and create. I like to incorporate challenges like “write a short piece with no repeated rhythms,” or “translate a drum beat into a riff.” These encourage imagination and develop the ability to make musical decisions. One of the most transformative experiences I’ve had as a teacher was helping a student turn field recordings from their hometown into ambient compositions using only guitar, effects, and looping—it was a powerful fusion of identity, creativity, and technical growth. I also teach practice strategies—how to break down challenges, structure sessions, and stay motivated. Lessons are a mix of structure and play, with room for improvisation, exploration, and student-led discovery. My ultimate goal is for students to feel like they own their music—not just perform it.

In my guitar studio, the focus is always on helping you build a meaningful and joyful relationship with the instrument. We start by developing strong technical fundamentals—proper form, finger independence, fluid chord changes, and rhythmic stability—but we do so in the context of real music that you’re excited to play. I don’t believe in dry drills or generic exercises without purpose.
Instead, I connect each technique to the kind of songs and styles you enjoy, whether you love soulful acoustic ballads, electric blues leads, pop progressions, or percussive fingerstyle patterns. I also integrate music theory in a practical, approachable way—how chord progressions are constructed, how scales inform melodies, and how rhythmic choices shape the energy of a song—always with an eye toward making your playing more confident and expressive. I tailor lessons based on your feedback and preferred learning style: we might use visual fretboard maps, ear training, play-along recordings, or on-the-spot improvisation. I encourage a growth mindset—progress over perfection—because mastery comes from patience, consistency, and curiosity. To support your journey, I include strategies for effective practice, stage preparation, managing performance anxiety, and finding your musical identity through creativity.
I share techniques and insights used by both legendary guitarists and everyday students so you know you’re not alone in your challenges or breakthroughs. Together, we’ll create a learning environment that feels safe, engaging, and motivating. Whether you’re learning for fun, personal growth, or future performance, I’ll help you connect your musical aspirations with a clear path forward—one rooted in solid technique, expressive freedom, and a genuine love of the guitar.
