About Ginger
I have been a writing tutor at Dallas College for over eleven years, and I have taken on several private students over the past eight years. After helping craft passionate personal statements, my students have been accepted to four year colleges, business schools, and even medical school. Aside from being a tutor, I am an adept creative writer and actress. My thesis in graduate school was a one woman show that I wrote, directed, produced, designed and starred in. While continuing to act professionally in local theater, I substituted at public and private schools, worked at a non-profit after-school program, and became an adjunct professor teaching theater and film theory.

Staying focused on an essay prompt is essential. I tell students to always refer to the prompt in order to make sure they are providing schools with the desired response and not going off topic. Once the student and I understand what the admission’s board wants, I begin conversing with the student and asking questions that will reveal the most intriguing aspects of the student’s life experience. I make them realize why these particular memories are the ones to hone in on. Ultimately, the student gains confidence and interest in actually telling his or her story. Writing the essay is no longer a chore.
