About Melanie
I completed a high school qualification in Textiles which covered the following areas: machine and hand sewing, knitting, felting, fashion design, pattern making and garment construction. In 2015 I completed a certificate in garment construction at the London College of Fashion. I have spent 15 years expanding my skillset through self-learning by designing and making my own clothes, creating soft furnishings (cushions, curtains) for myself and friends and knitting soft toys and trinkets.

I would describe myself as an amateur enthusiast and am always looking to expand my skill set.
I believe teaching arts and crafts is more about giving someone the building blocks they need to expand their knowledge through practice and self-learning. Being too prescriptive can be restrictive. It’s ok to make mistakes because that’s how we learn and grow.
I have primarily given lessons to secondary school-age children (12-18). My approach to teaching is to “learn by doing”. As with anything creative you have to go through the steps, make mistakes and develop your own methods and approaches. I am very hands-on and will always be willing to lend a helping hand. Therefore I am to create an open environment which encourages questions and collaboration.
