About Des
With a background in composition, including studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Royal Academy of Music, and a PhD from Oxford University, I bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to every lesson. My professional experience extends to collaborations with renowned ensembles such as the London Symphony Orchestra, Chineke!, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, and the Bach Choir, among others.
I also share my insights as a tutor at Oxford University, where I teach undergraduate composition. I have taught a range of students from beginner to doctoral/PhD level.
My dedication to music education has led me to share my expertise at institutions like Brunel University, AYM Albebugh Youth Music, and the Academy of Contemporary Music, (where I've delved into the realms of music technology and contemporary pop music genres, and film music).

I'm Des Oliver an experienced composer and educator with a passion for nurturing talent and igniting creative sparks. I'm thrilled to offer personalized online composition lessons (or Music theory lessons) that cater to students of all levels, all ages and aspirations. Whether you're preparing for exams, honing your craft as a composer or songwriter, or simply exploring the world of composition, my tailored instruction will empower you to reach new heights of musical expression.
All ages and levels of experience are welcome (1-2-1 online tutorials)

My online fee for composition tutorials is £35 per hour, but I am also happy to offer 30-minute tutorials at £25
My fee for music theory (only) is £25 per session.
Tutorials can be one-off sessions or regular (weekly, fortnightly or monthly), whatever suits your situation.
