About Benjamin
Benjamin is an accomplished violinist and violist with extensive experience in orchestral, solo, and chamber music. Always striving for growth and meaningful collaborations, he has built a career marked by versatility and international engagement. He is currently a tutti violist with the MALAYSIA PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA (since 2022). In the summer of 2025, he serves as Principal Viola at the BERLIN OPERA ACADEMY. Previously, he held leadership roles as Principal and Co-Principal Viola of the Malaysian Philharmonic Youth Orchestra (2013–2019), Principal Viola of the Selangor Symphony Orchestra (2016–present), and Guest player with the National Symphony Orchestra of Malaysia (2018–present). His international experience includes co-principal roles at the SILPAKORN Summer Festival in Thailand (2016) and the MIYAKOJIMA International Music Festival in Japan (2017). As a soloist and chamber musician, Benjamin has appeared in recital at Hong Kong City Hall (2024) and Tokyo Bunka Kaikan (2024). His artistry has been recognized with prizes at major competitions, including two first prizes from the Malaysia Youth Orchestra Foundation (2014, 2015), the Outstanding Award at the Osaka International Music Competition (2019), the Silver Prize at the Kings Peak International Music Competition, UK (2021), and Special Honors at both the Medici International Music Competition (2021) and the Birmingham International Music Competition (2022). Benjamin has collaborated with renowned conductors such as Benjamin Zander, Roberto Abbado, Junichi Hirokami, and Stanislav Kochanovsky, and performed alongside distinguished artists including Sarah Chang, Ning Feng, Fumiaki Miura, Nobuko Imai, Lawrence Power, Anna Fedorova, Kian Soltani, and Lilya Zilberstein. He is fluent in English, Mandarin, Cantonese, and Malay.
