About Maaike
Hi ! I'm Maaike, I am a Computer Science and AI graduate (2:1) from the University of Leeds with experience teaching programming at university level as well as in SEN and mainstream schools.
I offer lessons in Computer Science for students as GCSE and A-level, as well as beginners new to programming. Primarily, programming should be fun, and I am keen to get more young people excited about it !
Having worked as a Teaching Assistant at university, I have supported students across a range of topics including Python, Java, C/C#/C++, SQL and web development. I am used to explaining complex ideas clearly, and I tailor my teaching style to suit each student’s learning needs.
I also have experience working with students with ADHD, Autism and other additional needs, and I aim to create a supportive and patient learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes as part of the learning process - this is essential !

My teaching focuses on making coding engaging and interesting, while building a strong understanding of core concepts. I am keen to ensure that my students fully understand each topic and feel confident about the content, rather than simply memorising information.
Lessons are tailored to each student - I believe that understanding how to think through problems is just as important as learning syntax, so I focus on helping students develop their own unique approach to tackling new challenges.
Lessons begin by understanding the core concepts and techniques in our current topic, then carrying out a number of exercises to strengthen their understanding through active learning, followed by a focus towards Exam-Board specific requirements based on their final goal
