  • 1) Can you tell us about your first experience using a computer?

My first encounter with a computer was at the age of three. It was a Zenith PC running Windows XP and it belonged to my father, who worked as an editor at a local newspaper. I used to sit beside him as he typed articles in MS Word, thinking that was all a computer could do. Out of curiosity, I began exploring MS Word myself, especially the WordArt feature, which felt like magic. Then I discovered the built-in games. Pinball was my absolute favourite, mostly because of its wild sound effects. That moment left a mark. It felt like I was interacting with something alive. That curiosity turned into passion and, eventually, a career.
  • 2) What is the technological evolution that has marked you most, and what will be, in your eyes, a turning point in this field?

For me, and many in my generation, it has to be AI technology. It is incredible how quickly it is taking over so many aspects of our lives. The rate at which AI platforms are scaling is unprecedented in the history of the tech industry. I interact with generative AI tools like ChatGPT and other models on a daily basis and it amazes me how seamlessly they blend into everything I do. I believe the real turning point will be the arrival of Artificial General Intelligence (AGI), an AI that can perform any intellectual task that a human can. That will not just be a turning point in this field, but for the entire world. I am an optimist.
  • 3) Explain your expertise, your interest in it, and more broadly, its importance in the computer world.

My expertise is in Artificial Intelligence. I completed my Master's in Computing, specialising in AI, from Dublin City University. My interest in AI began in 2019 when I was experimenting with game development. I used to build Mario-style platformer games in Pygame and had to code enemy behaviour using pathfinding algorithms like A*. That hands-on experience with basic AI logic got me hooked. Today, AI is embedded in everything, from fraud detection in banking to crash avoidance in vehicles. Like any technology, it can be misused, but overall, I believe it has the potential to greatly benefit humanity if used wisely.
  • 4) Do so-called 'visionaries', such as Bill Gates, Steve Jobs and Mark Zuckerberg inspire you, or do you have other role models?

Yes, especially Steve Jobs. I have watched many of his keynote speeches and they absolutely fascinate me. I have learnt a lot about public speaking from him, especially the importance of attention to detail. Steve had a tremendous influence on how I present myself, how I speak, and how I connect with people. In social settings, confidence is everything and that is what I learnt from him. When he talks about something, he believes in it so deeply that he makes others believe in it too. That kind of conviction is absolutely powerful and I have been trying to adopt it ever since.
  • 5) Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

During college, I led a team of five called "The Catalysts" in the FIRST LEGO League challenge. What is usually a six-month project, we had to complete in just 24 hours. As team captain, I coordinated our strategy, design, and presentation under intense pressure. We barely slept, worked non-stop, and somehow built a working prototype of a lego robot with a complete pitch. Against all odds, we won the Best Innovation Project award. It was a crash course in leadership, teamwork and staying calm under pressure.
  • 6) What would you say to an uncomfortable person in front of a screen who says that 'IT is too complicated'?

I would tell them it does not have to be complicated. You just need the desire to learn and a little patience. It is about giving yourself some time to adjust and having someone to guide you along the way. In my opinion, anyone can learn about computers. Today's systems are incredibly user-friendly. In the early days, people had to know how to code just to perform basic tasks. Now, we have intuitive interfaces that make interaction seamless. So I would say just get started and you will see how easy it becomes with the right support.
  • 7) What are your other passions, related or unrelated to computers?

I am a chess player and I often visit chess clubs here in Ireland, usually on weekends. I recently went to Kilkenny with the DCU Chess Club and spent three days there. It was a brilliant experience.
  • 8) What makes you a Superprof in IT?

I believe it is my deep knowledge of the subject and my ability to communicate and deliver it effectively. I focus on teaching first principles and building a strong foundation. Over the past three years, I have taught more than 1,000 students, which has given me a solid understanding of what works and what does not. I am someone students can relate to and trust. Teaching is not just something I do for income…it is a part of who I am. It is something I truly truly care about.
