About Grace

I'm a recent English Literature and Philosophy Graduate from Durham University, currently on a gap year. My main work is as a singer-songwriter and cellist, releasing my own music and playing at live shows and events. However, I also have a passion for English Literature and would love to pass this on! I'm passionate about helping students feel good about themselves through their studies. This could be working really hard towards a goal, or enjoying exploring literature, working towards university level. I offer the unique ability to empathise with neurodivergent students, having been diagnosed ADHD earlier this year. I know how frustrating learning can be sometimes, especially in a traditional school setting and want to be the compassionate friend anyone needs to access their potential!

About the lesson

My lessons approach learning as something that is collaborative and goes beyond just ticking the boxes. The hope is that any of my students come away with great grades and a love for the subject! Lessons tend to be 60 minutes and are part of a plan we make at the beginning of our time together about what exactly you need from me! I have extensive academic experience, receiving all A*s or equivalent at GCSE, 3 A*s at A Level and studying an English Literature & Philosophy degree at Durham University. I have experience teaching and mentoring students whilst at Birkenhead School, where I studied, and teaching guitar to the same age range as a graduate. I have always loved interacting with my students and seeing them grow as people. I accept students from 11-17, working towards English GCSE, A Level and the 11 plus.

Grace was a great teacher, I came to get guidance on doing open mics and live performances, which she had lots of experience in. As well as giving great singing guidance, she also really reassured me about singing my own work. My style is folk (think Laura Marling) and Grace was perfect for this, super knowledgeable and helped me work through some lyric and technical issues I had with my songs. I really enjoyed our sessions (I've had 3) and I will definitely go to Grace again, she was so lovely! Couldn't recommend her enough.
