About Lauren

Hello! My name is Lauren, and I specialize in helping middle and high school students strengthen their English skills and prepare for standardized tests like the ACT and ISEE. My teaching style is student-centered, supportive, and practical. I focus on building confidence while teaching strategies that students can immediately apply in essays, classroom work, and exams. I’ve guided students through everything from crafting strong thesis statements and organizing essays, to mastering grammar rules and improving reading comprehension under time pressure. My approach combines interactive lessons, clear explanations, and targeted practice so that each session is both engaging and effective. A typical lesson with me balances instruction, guided practice, and independent application. For essay support, we’ll break down prompts, practice outlines, and strengthen writing step by step. For ACT or ISEE prep, we’ll review essential skills, practice timed drills, and learn proven strategies to manage pacing and accuracy. What sets me apart is my ability to connect with students on both the academic and personal level. I know how overwhelming essays and standardized tests can feel, and I work to transform that stress into confidence by making the process approachable and encouraging. I adapt my methods to each student’s learning style — whether they need visual breakdowns, detailed outlines, or conversational coaching. My lessons are ideal for: Middle school students needing English support or preparing for the ISEE. High school students working on essays for class, honors, or AP English. High school students preparing for the ACT English and Reading sections. My goal is not only to help students raise their scores and improve their writing, but also to give them tools they’ll carry into college and beyond.

About the lesson

Teaching Method and Techniques --> Interactive & Student-Centered: I focus on building confidence by asking guiding questions rather than giving answers outright. Clear Strategy: I teach students how to break down prompts, structure essays, and identify what test makers are asking for. Practical Tools: I use annotation strategies, outline templates, and timed drills to help students improve both their skills and pacing. Feedback-Driven: After each writing task or practice test section, I give targeted feedback and highlight progress areas. A Typical Lesson Plan (60 minutes) --> Warm-Up (5 minutes) Quick review of last lesson’s skills or a short practice question. Skill Focus (15–20 minutes) For essay tutoring: work on thesis statements, transitions, or evidence use. For ACT/ISEE prep: review one grammar rule, reading strategy, or question type. Guided Practice (20–25 minutes) Essay: draft or revise a paragraph together. ACT/ISEE: timed practice with immediate explanation of answers. Independent Practice (5–10 minutes) Student applies strategies on their own while I observe and coach. Wrap-Up (5 minutes) Review takeaways, assign short practice (like editing a paragraph or 10 ACT questions), and preview the next skill. What Sets Me Apart --> Balance of Academics & Test Prep: I help students grow as writers/readers and translate those skills into test performance. Empathy + Experience: I’ve been through AP English and standardized testing myself, so I know what students are up against and how stressful it can feel. Custom Approach: I adapt lessons to fit learning style—visual aids, step-by-step outlines, or verbal breakdowns depending on the student. Confidence Building: Beyond just grades, I aim to make students feel capable and prepared when they face essays, exams, or timed sections. Expertise: After taking the ACT, I earned a 36 on Reading and English Sections. I also received a 9 on the ISEE English section. Who the Lessons Are For Middle School Students (Grades 6–8): General English support: reading comprehension, essay basics, grammar foundations. ISEE prep: reading strategies, vocabulary, writing responses. High School Students (Grades 9–12): English essay help: literary analysis, research papers, AP/honors writing. ACT English & Reading prep: grammar rules, rhetorical skills, reading comprehension strategies, pacing.
