Calum is an excellent teacher. Although our acting classes were conducted in a group setting, he takes the time to understand each student individually, their personalities, strengths, and needs and brings out the best in everyone. He ensures that each person gains something meaningful from the sessions, whether through learning, reflection, or personal experience.

His teaching style creates a very comfortable, lively, and interactive environment. Everyone in the class thoroughly enjoyed his sessions. At times, attending his class even felt like a stress reliever or a form of therapy.

I recently completed a stage 2 acting course with Calum, I've done a few previous acting courses at other schools including RCS but was really surprised how much progress we made in only a few weeks. I really enjoyed performing our final scene although I was really nervous at first that I wouldn't be able to remember the lines. Calum is extremely patient and very encouraging, knowing just what to say to help you get the most out of the session and overcome any nerves. An extremely talented and passionate tutor, he really knows how to get the best out of you. Taking time to practise Meisner techniques really helped get out my own head and develop a stronger connection with my scene partner which was really great to watch back afterwards. Calum is the absolute ideal tutor for anyone wanting to improve their acting and develop their technical skills on stage or in front of the camera. As a seasoned musician, I have recently found myself as a player being asked to perform at front of stage. Calum directed us at Acting Coach Scotland in a recent production of "Constellations ". A challenging play but Calum knew exactly what he wanted and he convinced us that we could do it. With skill and infinite patience, he teased performances out of us that surprised us . Preparing a production is so satisfying when you are totaly confident that the director knows what he is doing and that he can guide you toward delivering his vision.

I had the pleasure of studying under this man for 12 sessions across as many weeks. Not only is he knowledgeable, insightful, analytical, but he is great fun and a joy to study from. His creativity in teaching, along with his capacity to analyze each actors capabilities individually, make this person not just a brilliant teacher but also an amazing director.

I met Calum as he was teaching an acting course in Edinburgh. Calum brings a really good balance between acting theory and practical techniques to bring your best version of the character to light. His personality lends itself to being a constructive and informative teacher. The way Calum thinks about the character allows you to discover new aspects about the characters life which, in turn, helps you perform better. His insight is valued and informative.

Calum is very enthusiastic, confident and knowledgeable and really puts the effort into the classes, ensuring his knowledge is shared and his students are comfortable and develop.

I was a student of Calum’s beginner class for Acting Out Edinburgh (would highly recommend the class) Calum is a brilliant teacher and really knows how to captivate and engage with his students. He’s helped me learn useful tips not only for acting and drama but also for my real personal life too.

I will say as a person who is neurodivergent it’s very hard to keep my attention consistently but since lesson 1 Cal had my attention from the get-go. His attitude and personality are very contagious. You can tell that Cal really wants his students to go far because he truly cares about each and every student that he teaches and that’s what I look for in a teacher in every thing I want to try and learn.

If you ever come across any Acting Out classes or anything similar taught by this gentleman I can’t recommend his teachings enough. You’ll learn so much not only about the acting and drama world but also things you’ll learn about yourself too!

I have recently completed an Acting Out course taught by Calum. He is a fantastic teacher who is very patient, supportive and enthusiastic. He helped me to push myself out of my comfort zone, and created a very friendly, fun and safe environment. I learnt a lot of practical tips and skills from him to assist me in everyday life. The whole experience exceeded my expectations thanks to him.

I met Calum whilst making a leap with a friend to try something different and put ourselves out of our comfort zones. We have since completed his Beginners and Intermediate Stage acting courses and I could not recommend this experience more.

Calum's approach is warm, friendly, encouraging and always interesting. He makes his students feel comfortable in what they are doing and always offers great coaching tips tuned to each individual as well as to the group.

Surprisingly, to me, I found that I really enjoyed the performance at the end of the course, performing short scenes along with the rest of the class, and am seeking to further my experience with Calum's other classes. This enjoyment was by no small amount boosted by Calum's excellent teaching style and the friendly atmosphere he created week on week and now that it is over, I find I miss our sessions a great deal.

If you want to dip your toe into acting or are more advanced and would like some 1-2-1 coaching then I cannot recommend Calum enough.

Cal is one of the best acting teachers I've ever had a chance to work with. He's very creative and always has many ideas for exercises to take you further and improve your craft. At the same time, I feel that he really listened to my individual needs and made sure that I got the support I needed at the time. Plus, each lesson was super fun and supportive, so I felt encouraged to experiment and just try things out. I recommend lessons with Cal if you wanna get better at acting in a fun way but also if you're a professional and want some support working on text or preparing for auditions - he gave me excellent tips for that.

Calum has taught me in both beginner and intermediate classes, and I’m really seeing the progression. I’m someone who needs pushed out of their comfort zone, and he manages to do this in an encouraging and thoughtful way. His experience and talent in directing shines through in his coaching, and he ensures that everyone gets the feedback they need to improve. His confidence in us to trust our instincts has really helped me grow both personally and professionally. I will be returning for more lessons, and I’m excited to see where this could go. I have just completed a Public Speaking Course (Face-to-Face) with Calum. I was really sad when the course finished. It was a friendly and positive environment where no one is judged but accepted and constructively corrected. I increased my own confidence and awareness of my own strengths. Calum kept it professional and entertaining. I was engaged the entire time. I have learned: how to use my voice in a way that’s more engaging so it would hold people’s attention; to be more influential through the use of storytelling; how to use body language to enhance clarity and influence; I learn how to address fear and much more. I can’t wait to put everything I learned into practice in my daily life.

I've really enjoyed learning with Calum. He's a very clear communicator, creates a safe and stimulating atmosphere for learning, and gives excellent feedback for students to work with. Calum has been my acting tutor for 2 months throughout a beginner’s acting course. Post Covid I was looking for a creative outlet having worked a very un-creative 9-5. It took me a long time to book a session as I felt totally out of my comfort zone. It’s safe to say all my anxieties quickly dissipated having Cal as a tutor. His non-judgemental, patient, and enthusiastic approach to teaching makes you feel at ease and understood. I've been working with Calum on his Beginners Actng Class and have found him to be a great teacher- encouraging, great at explaining and enthusiastic. I would definitely recommend him as a tutor and the beginner classes that he teaches.
