About Joanna

My professional life began at age 6 as a singer in Denver, Colorado through The Colorado Symphony, Colorado Symphony Chorus, Colorado Children's Chorale, and Central City Opera. In the athletic sphere, I pursued gymnastics, English riding, and swam competitively until I began dancing with Colorado Ballet under full scholarship. My Vaganova training with Marat Daukayev, Olga Tozyiakova, and Inessa Plekhanova at Colorado Ballet led me to study at the Kirov Academy of Ballet in Washington D.C., under the direction of Oleg Vinogradov (the longest tenured director of the Kirov Ballet (now Mariinsky)) with Ludmila Morkovina. Since the conclusion of my formal training, I have continued developing my voice and multidisciplinary artistic work through private teachers and coaches.

After falling in love with science in my mid-twenties, I chose to pursue the path to becoming a Neuroscience Researcher as a Pre-medical, Biology student. In 2023, I graduated with a B.A. in Neuroscience & Behavior, as a full academic scholarship student of Columbia University.

While working as an undergrad research assistant in the LeDoux Lab of NYU's Center for Neural Science, I designed experiments using professional ballet dancers as models for specific neurological functions to better understand human emotion, mood, and movement disorders, e.g. Bipolar Disorder, Schizophrenia, and Parkinson's Disease.

I learn invaluable lessons by stepping into the unknown, thus I continue to do so every day. I look forward to helping you in your academic journey to better understanding your course work and all that comes with it!

About the lesson

As a Neuroscience researcher, with a B.A. in Neuroscience & Behavior from Columbia University, I have tutored students throughout the country in person, as well as remotely via FaceTime and Zoom over the past decade.

Each of my students have raised their course grades to a B or higher, after studying the following disciplines with me:
Mathematics (through Calculus I), General Biology, General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Beg/Int French, German, and Russian.

I can teach dedicated students to read and write fluently in Russian in four, one hour sessions (No, this doesn't include fluent comprehension, which happens throughout those initial sessions and future study). I have prepared young professionals for relocation to St. Petersburg, as well as American ballet teachers interested in the language.

Most importantly, I help students who are angry and lost in STEM work (especially Organic Chemistry) find its joys, if teachers and professors have shown them differently.

I have equally enjoyed teaching students as young as ten and as old as 45.
