About Pamela
For more than 20 years, I have enjoyed a varied career in classical vocal performance, composition, choral conducting, and music education, specializing in contemporary classical works for voice. I have been a teacher of voice, music theory, music history, performance practice, vocal pedagogy, ear training, and composition.
My past work in higher education includes positions at Saint Elizabeth University, Rutgers University, and City College of New York. I have additionally been invited to give master classes at San Francisco Conservatory, Drew University, and other schools throughout the United States. As a private vocal instructor, I specialize in guiding high school students through the application and audition process to top American conservatories and other highly competitive college music programs.
Outside of my work as an educator, I have enjoyed an extensive career as a classical singer and composer of vocal music. I completed a two-year composition fellowship with American Opera Projects in New York, where I began creating my opera, The Interaction Effect, which went on to be workshopped in 2019 and 2020 by Manhattan School of Music’s graduate opera department. My music has been broadcast nationwide on NPR, and has been featured on festivals across the country. As a performer specializing in contemporary classical music, I have worked with Beth Morrison Projects, American Opera Projects, Rhymes With Opera, New Music New Haven, and Yamaha Concert Artists Series. I appear as a vocalist on minimalist composer Alexander Turnquist’s album Flying Fantasy, released on Western Vinyl. I am a performer alumna of the Britten Pears Young Artist Programme, the Bang on a Can Summer Institute at Mass MoCA, SICPP, and OperaWorks.
I received my Master’s degree in vocal performance from the Peabody Conservatory of The Johns Hopkins University, and my undergraduate degree from Westminster Choir College. I am a recipient of the Phyllis Bryn-Julson Prize for Commitment to and Performance of 20th and 21st Century Music, and have received grants for my work from New York State Council on the Arts, Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, and the National Endowment for the Arts.

My voice lessons consist of a balance of vocal technique (the way to optimize the physical aspects of vocal production with attention to proper breath support, alignment, etc) and the application of that technique to repertoire chosen with the student's goals in mind. The technique I teach is classically-based, and the majority of my students study classical voice and musical theater. I incorporate ear training techniques and solfege into lessons for those interested, and also offer audition preparation guidance to students, whether they are auditioning for a select choir at school, or hoping to achieve admission to a conservatory or competitive university music program.
