About Julia
I trained at a pre-professional ballet academy in my native Germany (DanceCenter in Augsburg). While I was a late-starter (almost age 15), I full immersed myself into the art of ballet and followed the academy's rigorous training schedule of 25 hours per week, while completing high school. As a member of DanceCenter's pre-professional company, I had the privilege to perform in multiple full-length ballets (Swan Lake, Nutcracker, Cinderella, Paquita, Le Corsaire, amongst others) and musical theatre productions (Cats, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Fame) as well as travel to the United States, Canada, Turkey and Czech Republic to participate in international exchanges and competitions.
In 2009, I moved to Canada to follow my dream of becoming a ballet teacher. After studying at Canada's National Ballet School in their prestigious teacher training program, I went on to complete an Honours Bachelor of Fine Arts with a Double Major in Dance and Psychology from York University. Since 2010, I have been teaching in Toronto,initially at various community centre programs, and later, for over a decade, at the Martha Hicks School of Ballet.

I am a graduate from Canada"s National Ballet School (Teacher Training), and also hold a BFA with a Double Major in Dance and Psychology from York University. I specifically focus on teaching Classical Ballet only, primarily following the Vaganova method, in addition to preparing students for exams with the Cecchetti Society of Canada.
While I challenge my students in their classes,, my main priority is to create a warm, encouraging and supportive environment. Mastering the art of ballet is difficult, and while a lot of discipline, dedication and commitment is required in order to make progress, I strongly believe that kindness and encouragement are key components in a classroom environment. I follow a holistic approach when teaching, being mindful of the unique individual(s) in front of me, taking into consideration their unique strengths and challenges.
I offer ballet classes for students ages 5 and up (with no age limit). I can teach in English and in German.
