About Claire

- What kind of experience do you have?

I am currently the Head of Chemistry at a secondary school, and this is the second school where I have held this role. Along with teaching the Chemistry A specification with OCR I also have experience of teaching year 12 and 13 the Chemistry B specification with OCR and AQA and OCR Applied Science A-level. I have experience in ISA preparation techniques for Chemistry A and for GCSE Sciences.

- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?

I have a current CRB with Essex County Council.

- What kind of experience do you have?

I have been a teacher of chemistry since 2001, head of chemistry since 2003 and assistant head of science simce 2012. I have extensive knowledge of OCR A, OCR B and AQA A-level specifications in chemistry and AQA, OCR and Edexcel GCSE specifications in chemistry, biology and physics. I currently teach AQA GCSE in biology, chemistry and physics along with AQA GCSE Double science. I have also been working with Cambridge University admissions office and Chemistry department to increase applicant success, working with students to improve their UCAS applications and personal statements.

- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?

I have an up-to-date CRB with Essex County Council as I am currently teaching.

- Do you belong to any professional organisations?

I am a Member of the Royal Society of Chemistry.

- Which subject(s) do you teach?

I teach GCSE Chemistry and GCSE Combined science trilogy and synergy all with AQA. I also teach A-level Chemistry OCR (Chemistry A). I have had experience in AQA and OCR (Chemistry B) A-level too.

- Tell me about your qualifications.

I have an MChem in Chemistry with Industrial Experience from Exeter University and a PGCE in Secondary Science from the University of Southampton.

- How much do you charge?

For GCSE I charge £30 per hour and A-level I charge £35 per hour. I have tutored groups of 2 in the past and offer a discount on the hourly rate.

- Where do you teach?

I teach at my home, students' homes, within the Colchester area, or I can use Zoom or Google meet for students who live further away or who are more comfortable using these technologies.

- When are you available?

Available evenings and weekends. Addtional time available in school holidays.

- Which ages and levels do you teach?

Years 10-13.

- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?

GCSE sciences, AS and A2 Chemistry, IB Chemistry.

- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.

I am Head of Chemistry in my school, a role that have held for 10 years at my current school and is the second school I have held the title. I have taught and tutored AQA and OCR A level along with AQA, OCR and EDXECEL GCSE double and triple science.

- Which subject(s) do you teach?

Chemistry AS, A2, GCSE and GCSE s double science for OCR, AQA and Edexcel. I have also experience in GCSE biology, GCSE physics in these exam boards and IB Chemistry, both standard and higher.

- Tell me about your qualifications.

I have a Masters in Chemistry from Exeter University and a PGCE from Southampton University.

- How much do you charge?

I charge £30 per hour for A-level and £25 per hour for GCSE. For tutoring at a student's own home I do charge for travel depending on distance/time taken.

- Where do you teach?

I tutor I currently only have the option to tutor at my own property due to child care commitments. I can offer Skype for those who are further afield and have done this successfully, along with text based communication moving students from a U to A grade at A level via msn messenger.

- When are you available?

I am available from 5-8pm every evening and Saturday mornings. During school holidays I am available from 8am - 8pm and can offer multiple sessions as appropriate. I have good availability during the Easter holidays and May half term for examination preparation.

- Which ages and levels do you teach?

I teach solely GCSE and A-level students as part of my job and therefore have extensive experience in preparing students for examinations.

- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?

I can prepare students for GCSE in Chemistry and Sciences, A-levels in Chemistry and the International Baccalaureate.

- Describe your arrangements for online tutoring.

I regularly use Zoom or Google meet to tutor online.

Claire is a highly competent chemist and dynamic teacher. Over my second year of sixth form college she enabled me to jump from a grade C at AS to grade A in OCR B A level chemistry. She clearly explains complex ideas and has a strong approach to exam technique. I cannot recommend her enough!
