About Christiana
- What kind of experience do you have?
As a violinist I have played internationally and worked with orchestras such as the English Symphony Orchestra, the London Beethoven Orchestra and the Ulster Orchestra in Belfast. I've also worked with artists such as Lady Gaga and Louisa Johnson on X Factor. I grew up in a house where my Mum taught the violin every day, and I was able to absorb and learn her teaching methods from a very young age. I studied with her from age 7 until age 13 when I was awarded a place to study at the Junior Royal Academy of Music. I had my first pupil when I was 16, and nothing gives me more joy than helping others to enjoy something so close to my heart. I have been fortunate to have had exceptional teachers so far during my training who have given me a real insight into how to go about my own teaching as well as form my own ideas. My current teaching practise consists of 45 pupils per week: this includes my private pupils as well as a full day at Bishop Challoner School in Bromley, and the Gower School in Angel; Islington. I also have my own YouTube channel, the 'Violin Pedagogue' which focuses on teaching pupils to play violin without tension using methods that are based on the Alexander Technique, Kato Havas method and Dalcroze.
- Do you have an up-to-date DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service, formerly CRB) Certificate?
I hold a fully enhanced DBS certificate and can produce it on request.
- Where and with whom did you train?
I began my training aged 7, studying with my mother Angela who is a professional violinist and teacher. After gaining grade 8 with distinction, I was accepted into the Junior Royal Academy of Music where I studied violin with Susan Collier, and later Carmel Kaine who prepared me for my auditions. I completed my undergraduate degree on scholarship at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in 2015 studying with john Crawford and was also obtained the LTCL certificate in instrumental and vocal teaching with distinction. I was recently awarded my Mmus (masters degree) in Violin Performance at Trinity Laban in 2017.
- Do you belong to any professional organisations?
I am a member of the ISM (Incorporated Society of Musicians)
- Tell me about some of your current students.
I currently teach 45 students per week. Thirty of these receive individual lessons from me at reputable prep schools in London and the rest are private pupils. They are all different levels spanning from beginner to Grade 8 and the age range is 4 years old to 28 years old. One student of mine, a 7-year-old boy has already passed his Grade 3 violin with flying colours, which is a big achievement for a boy as young as he is!

I'm a busy freelance London based violinist and passionate teacher. I aim to inspire my pupils and share my love of music with them. Music is a language and I use my expertise and training to help them develop their own musical voice. I prepare pupils for exams, scholarships, GCSE/A Level recitals, auditions, and also organise group concerts where my pupils can perform to each other in a relaxed and positive setting.
- Which subject(s) do you teach?
Violin, and Piano. I am also able to teach my students basic Music Theory knowledge up to Grade 5.

- How much do you charge?
My rates for violin teaching are as follows, as this is my area of particular expertise and training:
£25 per half hour
£32.50 for 45 minutes
£40 per hour
Piano and Music theory are at a cheaper £20 for half an hour, £25 for 45 minutes, and £30 per hour. Consultation lessons are usually 30 minutes in duration.
- Where do you teach?
I am happy and willing to teach students at their homes in the Dulwich area (ie: East Dulwich, West Dulwich and North Dulwich) as well as Forest Hill, Herne Hill and Brockley and will consider enquiries in Lewisham as well as Greenwich. I am willing to travel within a reasonable radius but may ask for a contribution towards my transport costs, depending the distance.
I also offer lessons online from home on platforms such as Zoom and Skype and have succesfully taught and maintained all my teaching this way during the Covid 19 lockdown.
- When are you available?
I am fairly flexible. However, I may sometimes have alterations to my timetable as I am juggling my teaching with a busy concert schedule which may mean that I am forced to change the time of a lesson.
- Which ages and levels do you teach?
I teach any age. I am comfortable teaching any level up to grade 8 standard and beyond, and am also confident teaching beginners the foundations of violin and piano technique. I have also got experience teaching students with learning difficulties and special needs as one of my pupils has autism and another suffers from epilepsy. The current age range of my pupils spans from age 4 to age 30.
- Which qualifications do you prepare your students for?
I like to motivate my students and am happy to organise ABRSM exams should the pupil wish to take them when the suitable level has been attained. So far I have 100% pass rate for all my pupils I have ever entered for examination, with most attaining at least a merit and often distinction.
However, exams are not for everyone, and I am also totally content teaching students who don't want to take exams. Equal development can take place either way and I am convinced that a holistic approach in teaching, which focuses on the needs of each individual child is the best approach.
- Do you have a personal message for students?
Everyone is different and has different needs, so I am flexible in my approach with my students and tailor my approach to focus on the individaul. I usually find it easy to relate to my students, and I like to combine both the technical, and musical elements of violin playing into balanced and motivating lessons. So, if you would like an approachable, dedicated and focused teacher please contact me now and I will endeavour to give you consultation lesson as soon as possible. I look forward to hearing from you!
