About Yu
I’m a Chinese–English bilingual tutor based in London, a parent myself, and someone who genuinely enjoys helping children grow in confidence through learning. Having lived and worked in the UK for over 12 years, I understand both British education standards and the diverse learning needs of families from different backgrounds. As a parent who has gone through the independent-school entrance process with my own child, I understand how challenging and emotional the 7+ and 11+ journey can be. This first-hand experience helps me support families with empathy and practical advice, from preparation strategies to maintaining a calm, positive mindset.

As a Chinese–English bilingual Maths tutor based in London, I specialise in helping children prepare for the 7+ and 11+ entrance exams with clarity, patience, and confidence. My lessons are ideal for pupils aged 6–11 who are aiming for selective or independent school entry, or who simply wish to strengthen their Maths foundation. Each session is tailored to the child’s learning style, ability, and target school. I take a step-by-step approach to ensure full understanding before moving on, focusing on number fluency, problem-solving, reasoning, and exam-style questions. Since each independent school’s exam can vary greatly, I adapt my teaching to match the specific question formats and styles used by the schools a student is applying to. This may include practice with historical exam papers or materials of similar structure to build familiarity and confidence. I use trusted resources such as Bond, CGP, and Schofield & Sims, alongside customised worksheets tailored to each student’s goals. A typical lesson lasts 60 minutes, though younger 7+ students may start with 45-minute sessions. Each class includes a recap and mini-quiz to reinforce learning. After every lesson, I provide parents with a concise progress update and suggestions for targeted practice.
