About Shengyu

Hi! I’m Shengyu (AKA Andrew), a Chinese teacher currently based in London. I’ve been living in the UK for about five years, and I’ve also spent time in Hong Kong and Spain, so I really enjoy connecting with people from different backgrounds.

For my teaching experience, I used to work in an educational institution in China, where I worked as an English teacher for primary and secondary school students. That experience taught me how to be patient, adapt to different learners, and keep lessons engaging and relaxed.

In addition to my teaching experience, I have also served as a Chinese Culture Ambassador at my university’s cultural festival. As a native Chinese speaker who grew up in China, I have a strong understanding of Chinese culture, history, and etiquette. If you’re interested in exploring these topics alongside language learning, I’d be more than happy to share and chat with you in a relaxed and friendly way.

Besides Mandarin, I can also speak a bit of Cantonese and Spanish, so I understand what it’s like to learn a new language myself. My teaching style is friendly and flexible — I’ll always try to adjust to your pace and help you build confidence step by step.

About the lesson

Learning a language is more than memorising vocabulary — it’s about understanding a culture, a way of thinking, and a different perspective of the world.

That’s exactly how I design my lessons.

Every class is fully personalised to your goals, level, and interests — whether you’re learning Chinese for travel, exams, business, or pure curiosity. I don’t believe in one-size-fits-all teaching. Instead, I build lessons around you.

Beyond language itself, I also bring in Chinese culture, history, and real-life context — helping you not only speak Chinese, but truly understand it. From everyday expressions to deeper cultural insights, you’ll learn how the language actually works in real situations.
