About Jessica
I graduated with honors from Johns Hopkins University with a B.A. in Chemistry and Minor in Math; I got M.S. in Chemistry from The Scripps Research Institute. At Johns Hopkins, I was the Head Teaching Assistant for Introductory Organic Chemistry Laboratory. During graduate school, I privately tutored a high school student in Algebra 1&2 and Geometry.

I use a needs-based approach for private tutoring. During my first session with a student, I like to go over past homework assignments and tests to understand what areas the student is struggling in. I also I like to review the student's class notes before starting each session to better understand how the material is being presented to them during class and how the student is responding to the material. I will work through problems with students step by step, making sure they not only understand how to solve the problem, but also understand what they are solving for and why each step is necessary to get to the solution. I believe understanding the 'what' and 'why' in addition to the 'how' is crucial to developing and applying problem-solving skills.

Lessons must be canceled at least 24 hours in advanced. Lessons canceled less than 24 hours in advance with be charged 50% the rate of the missed session. Lessons canceled less than 12 hours in advance will be charged the full rate of the missed session.
