About Owen

My interest in chemistry developed from a fascination with how invisible molecular interactions shape the physical world. This led me to pursue a B.Sc in Chemical Sciences, where I studied both theoretical principles and practical applications. Over 8 years of teaching, I have helped students move from confusion to clarity by breaking complex topics into manageable, logical steps. I teach with patience and structure, ensuring students feel supported while learning challenging concepts. I use diagrams, real-life examples, and step-by-step problem-solving to help students understand mechanisms rather than memorise equations. Many learners who once felt overwhelmed gain confidence as they begin to see chemistry as a connected system. Outside teaching, I stay engaged with chemistry through reading scientific literature and exploring practical applications in everyday life. This allows me to bring relevant examples into lessons and keep content meaningful. Teaching chemistry is rewarding because I see students gain confidence, curiosity, and scientific reasoning skills that last beyond the classroom.

About the lesson

Chemistry becomes much clearer when students understand the reasoning behind reactions rather than memorising formulas. In my lessons, I guide learners through atomic structure, periodic trends, bonding, stoichiometry, reaction types, acids and bases, energy changes, and solution chemistry using calm, structured explanations. I focus on helping students visualise molecular interactions and recognise patterns that make chemistry logical and predictable. Lessons are tailored to each level. Beginners explore atoms, elements, compounds, and simple reactions with guided practice. Intermediate learners work through stoichiometric calculations, equilibrium concepts, energetics, and reaction mechanisms. Advanced students focus on kinetics, thermodynamics, lab-style reasoning, and exam-oriented problem-solving. Each session blends explanation, worked examples, and guided exercises to reinforce understanding. Chemistry lessons also strengthen analytical thinking and attention to detail. As students understand how and why reactions occur, they gain confidence in tackling unfamiliar problems. My goal is to help learners approach chemistry with curiosity rather than fear, developing both scientific understanding and academic confidence.
