About Stuart

I am a Chartered Accountant (ICAS) with more than seven years of experience in corporate finance and as Head of Finance and Operations at a high growth tech company. I studied at Aberdeen University and Robert Gordon University, and I have also guest lectured on entrepreneurship and finance for Robert Gordon, Scottish Enterprise and other government bodies. Alongside building a business from the ground up, I have led multi million pound fundraising rounds and advised founders on strategy and financial planning. I am recognised as an industry thought leader in the travel and technology sector. My approach is not only about teaching but also mentoring. I work with students and early stage founders to help them understand finance in a way that builds confidence and supports their long term goals. For those preparing for exams, that means structured lessons, clear explanations and practical examples. For those starting a business, it means guidance on planning, investment readiness and making good financial decisions. I aim to give every student practical skills and the confidence to use them, whether in the classroom, in exams or in running their own business.

About the lesson

I keep lessons practical and tailored to whoever I am working with. I start by understanding what the student needs, whether that is preparing for an exam, building confidence in a subject, or applying finance in a real business setting. I break things down into clear steps, explain the reasoning behind them, and then use examples and exercises to make sure it sticks. With entrepreneurs I bring in real scenarios around cashflow, business planning and preparing to raise investment so that everything we cover can be applied straight away. Lessons usually run for 60 minutes. This gives enough time to cover new material properly, work through examples and check understanding without it feeling rushed or overwhelming. I am a Chartered Accountant (ICAS) with more than 10 years’ experience in corporate finance and as Head of Finance and Operations at a high growth tech business. I have built a company from the ground up, led multi million pound fundraising rounds and worked closely with investors and boards. This means I can connect technical learning to real life experience in a way that is useful and engaging. I work with school and university students studying accounting, finance or business strategy, and I also support professional students preparing for qualifications such as ICAS, ICAEW, ACCA and CIMA. My main focus is working with early stage founders and people looking to start a new business. I help them understand the numbers behind their ideas, build practical business plans, and get investment ready by preparing financial models, cashflow forecasts and pitch materials.
