About Anna Sophie

The most important thing to know about me is how passionate I am about learning! I was raised bilingual in Chinese and English, and I learnt Spanish as a teenager, moving to Mexico when I was 18. The Spanish I speak is very Mexican, but I have travelled all over Latin America and Spain, and am very knowledgeable about different dialects and accents. I am trained in linguistics and radical pedagogy, and have spent much of my life finding ways to apply these insights to developing new techniques to teaching languages and music. I have taught dozens of students Spanish, Chinese, guitar and singing over the past fifteen years. Whatever your insecurities about learning something new, I look forward to the opportunity to convince you that we all have the capacity to stretch our mind in new directions!

About the lesson

My lessons are very different from what you're probably accustomed to. Rather than just teaching you about the language itself, I focus a lot of attention on helping you understand the mental process that we go through when we learn a new language. Lessons are extremely interactive: rather than asking you to take notes to review later, I ask that students are entirely engaged in dialogue with me so that the two of us are always on the same page. I recommend two 90-minute lessons per week. At first students find these lessons quite tiring as they get used to the level of engagement that I ask of them, but once you've settled into the routine of it you will find yourself feeling extremely energised by the end of each class! I have taught students aged 13-80, as well as students with learning disabilities. All are welcome!
