About Jay
My name is Jing Tao, but I go by Jay. I was raised in Asia up until high school and later came to the United States to pursue a Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering. Since then, I've taken up opportunities to spread knowledge as both a volunteer and peer tutor logging a total of over 500 hours. From college peer-facilitated workshops to private tutoring, my longest students were with me for nearly 2 years. What drives me to continue tutoring is my passion for teaching and being able to help my tutees succeed. I hope to be given the opportunity to do so for you as well!

With 4 years of experience in tutoring high school and college students, I've worked with people of all educational backgrounds and study habits.
My goal is to translate to you the ability to think logically and critically, like an engineer. And at the same time, I aspire to help you find a passion for what you're learning. You will not only gain a better understanding of the subject matter but also pick up the "skill to learn", rather than just rote memorization.
I can also provide homework help, useful resources, handouts, personally-written notes, and exercises that I find helpful.
If your subject/course is not listed, feel free to reach out.
Recommendations
Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the tutor.
He is very patient and really nice when it comes to explaining and answering any questions in class. This was my first time in any workshop, and he definitely made it worthwhile. He makes the class fun and easy to participate in. It's also a very organized and straightforward class, so I enjoyed it overall.
Jay is professional, great at explaining complex topics in a manner that is easy to follow, and friendly!
Jay went above and beyond to help all of us. I liked when he would teach he would make sure everyone understood before we moved on.
He explains everything very well, making sure everyone in class is tracking. Overall he is an excellent teacher.
Jay will listen and give his full advice and help! He is fantastic at explaining even the simplest of questions, and has the patience of an angel. He is a great teacher, can explain math in a very straightforward way and will even go further when needed.
He was always a good tutor to me, he always answered my questions to the best of his ability which helped me understand the material way better. But also a good tutor is one that I will always go back to and Jay fits the top of the bill. I would recommend him to anyone, he's calm doesn't pressure you. and gives top tier answers I would recommend him anyday.
Jay is an amazing teacher for all things math- with his help on my SAT, my score increased by almost 100 points in math! Jay is good at taking the time to ensure I understand concepts, and actually learn content. I would definitely recommend Jay as a math teacher.
Jay is a trustworthy teacher due to his attentive, receptive, and good balance of social and work behaviors.
He takes his time to explain problems to the best of his abilities with reason, and he is also open to new methods and learning styles from the students.I know Jay personally from college. He was a tutor at the school, and I came in for help on organic chemistry. He sat down and really took his time to help me understand hard concepts in a patient and thorough manner. I've had other help from other friends and tutors, but his teaching particularly stood out to me. You don't come by often tutors who genuinely care about the success of their tutees. I highly highly recommend him!
Really knows how to give in-depth explanations. Very patient and respectful, cannot recommend him enough!
Jay’s an amazing tutor. He is very kind, patient, and understanding, always taking the time to make sure students thoroughly understand a topic before moving on. Highly recommend and know he won’t disappoint.
I really enjoy learning and working with Jay! He is honestly so patient with his tutees and they always feel better after meeting with him, especially when it is a subject in the sciences. Give him a try!
Best,
EmmaI know Jay as a peer tutor on campus and really appreciate his time helping me learn MATLAB coding. He is able to break down complicated problems into easy-to-follow steps that allows you to understand the prompt well. I hope he'll be able to help you just as he did with me!
Jay is my colleague from the research lab. He is very keen in the sciences and does really well in his classes. Not only does he understand the material thoroughly, but he also learned to apply them in the lab whilst honing his analytical skills. Jay is pleasant to work with and also a great friend.
I have worked with Jay as a peer tutor on campus and can speak for his ability to relay difficult material such as Calculus and Chemistry. He is very patient and understanding with students of all levels so don't be afraid whether you are struggling with the basics or need help with the more complex problems. Would definitely recommend him as a tutor
