About Caleb

How I love to teach Spanish.
Spanish is my first language; the only one I spoke when I was growing up when I was in school and for a long time into my early adulthood. Therefore, speaking Spanish is a pleasure because it is linked to my identity and peculiarity. Teaching Spanish, the language of Cervantes, is a double pleasure because in doing so, I can see and perceive, in my students, the same reactions that I had when studying my second language--English-. I can still vividly remember the moments when I acquired new words in my English vocabulary and could use them in context with correct grammatical form. At that moment, I realized that I was reading and understanding a language other than Spanish and could use it in everyday life situations and even to express complex cases. It is always a rewarding moment for me in my Spanish classes every time a student raises their hand to ask me about the meaning of a word or to deepen the explanation of a grammar rule. Even more gratifying is the moment when I perceive that the student is acquiring new vocabulary and is using it, according to grammatical rules, in a correct way. The previous situation means that the students are learning and can express themselves in a new language other than their native language. Seeing and experiencing moments like these makes me love teaching Spanish more and more every day.

About the lesson

I am a highly educated and certified teacher (Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and two master's degrees in Spanish) with vast experience teaching Spanish from kindergarten to university levels in different environments (immersion classrooms, regular classrooms, face-to-face, and Online instruction)
I want my students to achieve excellent competence in communicating in Spanish so that they can express themselves in a different language than their mother tongue. As a teacher, I want to know my students' personalities and capabilities. Each student is a unique individual who deserves special attention and treatment when possible and necessary. I consider those individual differences. I have various approaches to teaching different people in diverse educational settings. (degree, level, class, specificities, type of students, number of students per course, time, age, etc.) A typical lesson plan in my class includes the following:
Warm-ups.
Assessments of previous classes' contents.
New material presentations.
The practice of new material.
Students' communication in Spanish.
Wrap-ups.
