About Sherrod

My name is Rodney, and I am a certified high school math teacher with a Master’s in Teaching Mathematics. I currently teach Advanced Algebra and Pre-Calculus, and I bring real classroom experience into every tutoring session. I understand how to break down challenging concepts in a way that builds both understanding and confidence.

Students and parents can expect professionalism, consistency, and results. I take pride in helping students improve their grades while also developing strong problem-solving skills that last beyond one test or class. My approach is patient but structured, ensuring that each student feels supported while also being challenged to grow.

Whether a student is struggling to keep up or aiming to excel at a higher level, I meet them where they are and help them move forward with clarity and confidence.

About the lesson

My approach as a tutor is built on clarity, structure, and confidence-building. As a high school math teacher with a Master’s in Teaching Mathematics, I understand that many students don’t struggle because they “can’t do math,” but because concepts were never fully broken down in a way that made sense to them. I focus on simplifying complex ideas into step-by-step processes, making sure students understand the “why” before just memorizing the “how.”

A typical lesson starts with a quick check of prior knowledge or a review of a recent assignment or assessment. From there, I model the concept using clear examples and guided steps. Students then work through problems with my support, where I gradually release responsibility so they can build independence. I also incorporate real test-style questions and common mistakes to prepare them for quizzes and exams. Each session ends with a quick recap and a plan for what to practice next.

What sets me apart is that I bring both classroom experience and a coach’s mindset. I hold students accountable while also encouraging them to push past frustration. I’ve worked with a wide range of learners, from those trying to pass a class to those aiming for top scores, and I adjust my approach based on the student’s goals. I also emphasize consistency, discipline, and confidence, which often leads to noticeable grade improvement.

My lessons are best suited for middle school and high school students, particularly those enrolled in Algebra, Advanced Algebra, and Pre-Calculus courses. I also support students preparing for exams or needing help catching up and staying on track during the school year or over the summer.
