About Bryce

I believe most school subjects--and most certainly writing and mathematics--are truly just games and puzzles disguised as work. After over 10 years writing, teaching, and tutoring, I'm convinced that taught and guided the right way, everyone can love them.

I'm not the kind of tutor who will give answers; I believe much more strongly that teaching a student *how* to get their words on paper or *how* to truly understand an algebra problem is worth the time it takes. If a student knows how to do something well, then they don't need me to continue to complete that assignment or even future ones. That is always my goal.

Besides this, I'm a rather simple guy. Some of my favorite things to do are playing in chemistry labs, skateboarding, writing poetry, and gardening. I am also a fan of drinking water, swimming in water, taking showers in water, watching water move through rivers, and watering plants. (Point being: I really like moving water. I happen to think it's really cool. But I won't hold it against you if you don't.)

I'm fun, don't take myself too seriously, and love helping other people. I really look forward to helping anyone I can.

About the lesson

My lessons are for students having trouble getting their thoughts onto the page. Whether that be middle school research papers or dissertation proposals, my job is to guide students through their own process, rather than give a one size fits all method. I believe the best writing tutors are those who don't feed their students actual sentences and paragraphs, but help the students find their own thoughts and learn to organize them into text. More often than not, all this requires is *thought provoking conversation*. If a student can explain what they need or want to write to me, then getting those words on the page becomes a much simpler task. I also love helping checking for correct grammar, style, or syntax, helping students make their writing flow the best it can, and getting students to find their own personal writing method (which is so drastically different for every single writer, from 10 years old to 50 years old and I really believe in the value of students recognizing their uniqueness).
